The Color Photo Book - Improve the quality of your color photographs Hardcover

Dear Reader
I assume you reach for this book because you wish to improve the quality of your color photographs in regard to technical proficiency and pictorial effect; and you, of course, assume that I will be able to guide you toward this goal. Whether or not we both will be happyI, with your progress as a student of photography, and you, with the effect of this book upon your workdepends to a great extent upon mutual understanding right from the start of our common venture. Let me clarify: You are entitled to expect from me an authoritative, technically sound, and completely up-to-date guide to color photography, giving you the benefit of my twenty-year experience as a Life staff photographer and thirty-year preoccupation with photography and the needs of photographers. However, I realize that I have strong convictions and definite ideas on many aspects of photography. I therefore feel it is only fair to warn you that you may be in for surprises. My approach to the subject is often different from that of the average textbook. If all you want is a conventional introduction to color photography, you may be disappointed. But if you are open-minded and willing to try new ways, I believe you will find the following discussions both stimulating and profitable.

On the other hand, I expect that you have faith in my ability as a teacher. And since teaching implies learning, I also expect a certain effort on your part. Even if, as far as you are concerned, photography is merely a hobby; to make it successful and rewarding, you must memorize a few technical terms and familiarize yourself with certain principles and rules. However, do not worry; what at first may seem strange and difficult because it is new, will soon become familiar to you.
